Statement on Governor’s Selection of the Honorable S. Bernard Goodwyn for the Supreme Court of Virginia
Attorney General Bob McDonnell issued the following statement today regarding the Governor’s selection of the Honorable S. Bernard Goodwyn:
“I support Governor Tim Kaine’s choice of Chesapeake Circuit Court Judge S. Bernard Goodwyn for the Supreme Court of Virginia. The Governor has made an informed selection, through a deliberative and intellectually rigorous process.
“Judge Goodwyn is eminently qualified to serve as a Supreme Court justice. He is a Virginia success story. His rulings are shaped by his intellectual achievements, and his respect for the rule of law. Judge Goodwyn understands the Commonwealth and its legal system, and he is well suited to rule on the most important legal issues that face Virginia. Now, in accordance with the laws of Virginia, the General Assembly will review this selection. I know the members will provide Judge Goodwyn with a full and fair hearing, and I am hopeful that he will be elected to a full 12-year term.”
