McDonnell Attends Signing Ceremony for Grayson County TRIAD Partnership
County Becomes 222nd Virginia Locality to Join TRIAD
Independence - Attorney General Bob McDonnell joined local leaders at the Grayson County Courthouse today to take part in the official signing ceremony for Grayson County’s partnership with the TRIAD program in Virginia.
The Attorney General was joined at the signing ceremony by Delegate Bill Carrico, Grayson County Sheriff Jerry Wilson, Fries Police Chief Bobby Jones and Independence Police Chief James Wagoner, as well as other local leaders.
TRIAD is a cooperative arrangement between the Office of Attorney General Bob McDonnell, local law enforcement and seniors groups, designed to educate and assist senior citizens on issues of crime and fraud. According to the federal Administration on Aging, while senior citizens currently account for 16 percent of the national population, they are victims in 30 percent of all fraud cases.
“TRIAD is a public-private crime prevention partnership that works,” McDonnell said. “It is one of the nation’s fastest growing crime prevention programs. This program will help to protect senior citizens in Grayson County, and I am very pleased I was able to be here for the official signing today. I know the TRIAD program will make a positive difference in Grayson County.”
Grayson County Sheriff Jerry Wilson added, “I am very excited about this opportunity for crime prevention in Grayson County. The relationships and guidance we will receive from the senior community will be a benefit to each and everyone involved."
TRIAD was established in 1988 when three national organizations agreed the elderly could be better protected by cooperative efforts. The relationship was cemented when the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) signed a cooperative agreement. The TRIAD program began in Virginia in 1995. With today’s signing, 222 cities, counties and towns have signed TRIAD agreements in the Commonwealth.
