Virginia State TRIAD Conference to be Held October 4-6 in Norfolk
Attorney General Bob McDonnell is inviting the law enforcement community and senior service providers in Virginia to attend the Virginia State TRIAD Conference at the Waterside Marriott Hotel on October 4-6, 2006 in Norfolk, VA.
The conference is aimed at training local law enforcement, members of the local Triad S.A.L.T. Councils (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together), and senior service providers on updated crime prevention and safety information.
There is a $50 registration fee which covers all conference meals, materials, and activities. Click here for registration and exhibitor forms, or call Jennifer Aulgur, Director of TRIAD & Citizen Outreach at (804) 786-9516.
TRIAD is a cooperative arrangement between the Office of Attorney General Bob McDonnell, local law enforcement and seniors groups, designed to educate and assist senior citizens on issues of crime and fraud. According to the federal Administration on Aging, while senior citizens currently account for 16 percent of the national population, they are victims in 30 percent of all fraud cases.
“TRIAD is the fastest-growing crime prevention program in the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the country,” McDonnell said. “TRIAD makes all Virginians safer, and ensures that our senior citizen’s stay active and involved in their communities. It is a partnership that works.”
TRIAD was established in 1988 when three national organizations agreed the elderly could be better protected by cooperative efforts. The relationship was cemented when the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) signed a cooperative agreement. The TRIAD program began in Virginia in 1995. Today, 216 cities, counties and towns have signed TRIAD agreements in the Commonwealth.
The Attorney General will be a keynote speaker at the conference. Some of the planned workshops include topics such as Elder Frauds/Scams, a crime prevention skit by Mrs. Butterworth, Planning a Senior Citizen’s Police Academy, Grant Writing/Training, and many others.
