ZabaSearch.com

I have a complaint about information posted on Internet sites such as ZabaSearch.com.

There are thousands of online databases that gather information from public records, including addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth.  Often, the public doesn’t realize just how much information about individuals can be accessed easily through the Internet. Key pieces of data, such as Social Security Numbers, are not legally part of the public record, but sometimes can be tracked down by identity thieves through the Internet.

Some have claimed that ZabaSearch.com sells Social Security Numbers. There is no evidence of this practice.

In addition to needlessly alarming people, e-mails circulated on the Internet try to offer a solution that does not actually exist. It claims that an e-mail can be sent to ZabaSearch, asking that your information be removed from its database. However, there is no opt-out option on the Web site, and even if there were, you would only be removing your name from one of thousands of databases that collect information from public records.
